red. where emerging writers find their words

We at red.
are happy to announce that the Nepantla issue is ready to be read. We would like to thank all of you for your patience. We appreciate your art and apologize for the delays in our second issue. The writing in this issue is incredible and we think that the wait was worth it. We hope you will soon agree with us.

red. publishes high-quality writing and art produced by new artists pushing the boundaries. Ezra Pound challenged modern writers to “Make it new.” We challenge developing writers and visual artists to seek innovative ways of breaking with the standard art being produced en masse.

Attention fiction writers, poets, and artists:

Please submit to us...but at another time. The window is closed, our boxes are full, and we hope all of you are busy reading the incredible writing in issue number two!

red., the literary magazine born in San Diego, CA, is currently putting the finishing touches on issue two, the Nepantla issue.  Our inaugural issue, Aleph, was published in the spring of 2005.  Aleph features visual art from Baja, poetry from Phoenix, fiction and photography from San Diego, and more.  For Nepantla, we sought work from Sonora and beyond.  Nepantla is a Nahuahtl word meaning land in the middle, or a different space in which to exist and create.  At red., we have no formal aesthetic or theme—we're simply looking for smart, original works from those making art from the middle.

Read our submission guidelines, then send work to us at: mail@redlitmag.org

(We will be accepting submissions again sometime later in 2007. Check back for details).

In the meantime, read red. issue #2, The Nepantla issue now!

Thanks,

the editors at red.
